The look on her face, the position of the body, the fabric choices for the outfit, and the props will all come together to help tell her story without explanation. Use these elements to give your doll a personality and an attitude. When you are all done and sitting back to admire your handiwork, she will tell you what her name is. Ladder stitch the hands to the arms. Add a little more stuffing before closing the ladder stitch to make sure the wrists are firm. Trim will cover wrist seam. 6. Cut a 2½″ length of trim for each wrist. Wrap the trim around the wrist so that it covers the seam where the arm and hand join. Choose a thread color to match the trim so the stitches are not seen. Stitch the trim on with tiny stitches around the wrist. 7. Set the arms aside for now. The blouse will be made and put on the doll before the arms are attached.
Use a stuffing tool if you have one, but don’t buy one before trying what you already have on hand. I use polyester fiberfill for stuffing my dolls. There are a few brands that work well. Don’t use stuffing that looks and feels like cotton balls. It tends to look lumpy and bumpy under the fabric. Stuff the body and leg pieces firmly, but not so firmly that the seams appear to be stressed. Use a pencil (or your stuffing tool of choice) to pack down the stuffing as you go. The ankles and neck tend to get a wrinkle and bend in them if they are not stuffed firmly enough.
